When Discernment Is Lost
🔍 Understanding the Issue
To filter means to:
Examine what is heard
Test whether it is true
Decide whether it should be accepted or rejected
A heart that cannot filter
does not make these distinctions.
It treats:
Truth and error
Fact and assumption
Righteousness and corruption
as if they are the same.
🔥 Reflection
Not every heart rejects truth—
some simply cannot distinguish it.
A person hears something…
and instead of examining it,
they accept it at face value.
📖 “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.” — Proverbs 18:13 (KJV)
This kind of heart does not pause.
It does not verify.
It does not test.
It reacts.
⚠️ How Discernment Is Lost
Discernment is not usually lost suddenly.
It is weakened over time by:
Repeated exposure to untested words
Habitual acceptance of every report
Lack of reference to the Word of God
📖 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…” — 1 John 4:1 (KJV)
If a person does not test what they hear,
they gradually lose the ability to do so.
🔥 The Condition of the Heart
A heart that cannot filter will:
Believe quickly
Agree easily
Change position frequently

This is not stability—
it is instability of judgment.
Such a person is not guided by truth,
but by whatever they hear last
or feel most strongly.

The Bible does not excuse this condition.

This is a command:
Test everything
Keep only what is true
A person who does not test
is not being neutral—
they are being careless.
🔍 Practical Signs of an Unfiltered Heart
Quickly believing reports without evidence
Forming opinions before full understanding
Repeating information without certainty
Being easily influenced by tone or emotion
⚠️ Why This Is Dangerous
When the heart cannot filter:
Falsehood enters easily
Truth is not properly recognised
Judgment becomes unreliable
Over time, the person may:
Defend what is wrong
Reject what is right
Act on incomplete or false conclusions
🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ,
restore discernment in my heart.
Where I have accepted things without testing them,
forgive me.
Where I have believed words without verifying truth,
correct me.
Teach me to examine what I hear,
to measure it by Your Word,
and to reject what is not from You.
Give me a steady heart—
not easily moved, not easily influenced,
but grounded in truth.
